About the Author(s)

Brian Shmaefsky is a professor of environmental sciences at Lone Star College–Kingwood near Houston, Texas. He did his undergraduate studies in biology at Brooklyn College in New York City and completed master's and doctoral studies at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and the University of Illinois. His research emphasis is in environmental physiology. Dr. Shmaefsky has written several science books and many publications on science education. He volunteers as a science consultant locally and internationally on environmental issues, public health, and environmental justice. He currently lives in Texas and is proud to be a grandfather.
