Summary
In his account of the Jamestown settlement written in 1624, Jamestown leader John Smith wrote that Pocahontas, a young Indian girl, had saved his life in 1607 when she pleaded with her father, Chief Powhatan, not to execute Smith after he had been captured. Some historians, however, question whether this account is true. Did Pocahontas really save Smith from execution, or did Smith make up the story?
This eBook examines the story of Pocahontas and John Smith and delves into the pro and con arguments that surround its veracity. It includes a timeline, primary sources, a bibliography, and a "Learn More About" chapter with more information on the topic.
