About the Author(s)
Dr. Jocelyn Murray was born in New Zealand, where she trained as a teacher. After 13 years as a missionary in Kenya, she studied for a Ph.D. in African history at the University of California, Los Angeles. In 1974 she became a research fellow in the Department of Religious Studies at the University of Aberdeen. Since 1980, Dr. Murray had been involved in writing and editing work, principally about Africa, and was on the staff of the International African Institute in London.
Brian A. Stewart is currently completing a Ph.D. in southern African Stone Age archaeology at St Hugh's College, University of Oxford, where he also lectures. He spent more than two years in South Africa doing archaeological research and fieldwork, and has traveled extensively throughout the continent.
