About the Author(s)

Alan Axelrod has authored four books for Facts On File, including The Encyclopedia of Secret Societies and Fraternal Organizations; Cops, Crooks, and Criminologists; Dictators and Tyrants; and The Environmentalists: A Biographical Dictionary from the 17th Century to the Present. His military-related titles include The Macmillan Dictionary of Military Biography, the Complete Idiot's Guide to World War I, The Complete Idiot's Guide to the American Revolution, and The Complete Idiot's Guide to the Civil War, among others. He serves as a historical consultant to the Discovery Channel and was a creative consultant for A&E's Civil War Journal in 1994.
