Chris Rock is known for his brutally honest sense of humor, a quality that has propelled him to the forefront of the entertainment industry. Born in South Carolina, Rock moved with his family to the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of New York, where he was the only black student at an all-white school. He subsequently dropped out, but found salvation in doing stand-up comedy in a small local club. These club appearances led to a regular stint on Saturday Night Live, small movie roles, and HBO specials. In addition to performing, Rock has produced the acclaimed autobiographical sitcom Everybody Hates Chris. This biography spotlights the comedian/actor's life, contributions, and influence, and his legacy for new generations of black Americans. Chris Rock: Comedian and Actor is an insightful look at the accomplishments of one of the most successful entertainers of his generation.
